The Om mantra chants marked the beginning of India’s first ever Carnatic tradition children’s choir, unfolding rhythms and songs at a concert held recently in Bangalore. The choir director was none other than Oscar nominee, world-renowned artiste and music composer Bombay Jayashri Ramnath. The chorus and the instrumentation were based on the compositions of several great Carnatic great masters.

Eminent Carnatic musician Nukala Chinna Satyanarayana passed away here today following brief illness.
He was 89.
Satyanarayana, a recipient of Padma Bhushan and several other prestigious awards, died at his residence.
Born at Anakapalle in coastal Andhra Pradesh, he started as a student of violin but attained heights of greatness as a vocalist, music teacher, author and administrator.
He enthralled music lovers both in India and abroad with his soulful rendition of Carnatic music.
He performed in the presence of several great personalities including late prime minister P V Narasimha Rao.
