Bangalore-based Akkai Padmashali was drawn to Carnatic classical music when she was 14. Her grandmother, a vocalist herself, taught music to the neighbouring children. Udupi: Renowned musician Rajani Hebbar (30) loses battle with cancer

Carnatic vocalist Ranjani Hebbar Guruprasad died on Sunday in her hometown Udupi, after a prolonged battle with cancer. One of the bright young talents in Carnatic music, 31-year old Ranjani, a native of Dakshina Kannada, was the daughter of Vasanthalakshmi and Aravinda Hebbar. Rudrapatna is a unique village. It has a sound.
