A classical symphony fiesta!
Classical music enthusiasts and talented young musicians can rejoice as maestros of Indian classical music, like Prof T N Krishnan, Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma, Begum Parween Sultana, Vidwan T V Shankarnaraynan, Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia, Us. Amjad Ali Khan and Vidushi Vedavalli, will come together to judge a Doordarshan reality show, hosted by Shabhana Azmi.
The show, titled ‘Naad Bhed’, is organised by the Society of Promotion of Indian Classical Music, in association with Doordarshan. The participants will be selected through competitions at 20 regional Doordarshan kendras, with quarterfinals being conducted in Kolkata for Hindustani music contestants and in Chennai for Carnatic music contestants.
The national final will be telecast on DD national network. The aim is to promote and popularise classical music all over the country.
Awards will be for six categories -- Pt Bhimsen Joshi Yuva Puraskar (Hindustani vocal), Pt Ravishankar Yuva Puraskar (Hindustani instrumental), Ustad Alla Rakha Yuva Puraskar (Hindustani accompanist), Smt M S Subbulakshmi Yuva Puraskar (Carnatic vocal), Vidwan Sheikh Chinna Moulana Yuva Puraskar (Carnatic instrumental); Vidwan Palghat Mani Iyer Yuva Puraskar (Carnatic accompanist).
The winner in each category will get 2 lakh as cash award. One mega winner in each form -- Hindustani & Carnatic music -- will win 10 lakh each. Besides, all finalists at national level will receive an award of 10,000.
