Addressing a press meet on Tuesday, Vivek Sinha of Spic Macay said altogether six contestants, belonging to the each three sub categories of Hindustani and Carnatic music, will be rewarded. The sub categories in each of Hindustani and Carnatic music are vocal, instrumental and accompanist.
A total of 480 applicants will be shortlisted from all over the country on the basis of their biodata, mentor's (guru) biodata, written recommendation of the mentors and an additional recommendation by a second person regarding the singing or instrument playing capability of the applicants, to be enclosed with the application form.
The shortlisted candidates will be sent to their nearest DD centres where the local judges will screen 240 applicants only. After a series of tests, 36 best artists from both Carnatic and Hindustani music will be selected and sent to Mumbai. Each of the 36 contestants will be rewarded Rs 10,000. In Mumbai, through 15 episodes, six best artists in their respective sub categories will be selected. They will get Rs 3 lakh each. Among these six contestants, two top from Hindustani and Carnatic music each will be further rewarded Rs 7 lakh. The show, for which the auditions will begin in August this year, will be hosted by actor Shabana Azmi and will be telecast on DD National and DD Bharti.
"We want to encourage the youth of India to get attached to their culture of classical music which has been, of late, swept by Bollywood music. Since DD has a reach even in villages, we are sure the programme will pull out the talent even from the remotest part of the country," said Sinha. The last date to apply for 'Naad Bhed' is on July 31. Applications can be downloaded from the Spic Macay website www.spicmacay.com/naadbhed.
